Owning a home in Sacramento comes with many rewards and benefits but it also comes with maintenance issues or renovation projects that can feel very overwhelming. If you’re facing a leaky roof or simply want to tackle some overdue repair or maintenance work, getting the help can make all the difference. In this post, we’ll help explain some ways in which you can fix your house with some do-it-yourself and even some financial resources to help you out with your property here in the Sacramento area.
Let’s begin!
#1. What do you need?
The first step in figuring out any potential issue or road block if you will, is to figure out exactly what needs to be done. Take a walk through your property and make a list of everything YOU see as something that wants to be fixed or even touched up. Then review your list and start adding some items like a new kitchen or basically any future renovation tasks you would LIKE to do, either now or in the future, doesn’t matter. Now start to prioritize this list based on urgency like if i do not do this task, will it make my property worse? Will the problem or issue get worse which in return cost me more money? These are at the top of the list.
#2 DIY (Do-It-Yourself)
Once we got the hierarchy in order, now we decide whether we can do-it-ourselves AND we won’t cause more harm to the property or if the best use of time and resources would be to hire out the project to a contractor. Be honest and watch some Youtube videos (many videos to be honest, because if you start the work and decide to hire out later, it WILL cost more!) to figure the scope of work, length of time (your time is the most valuable resource all humans have) and the safety factor like any shutting down or moving electrical work.
#3 Contractors
If the right move is to hire out a contractor, take the time to talk to neighbors like the one who is getting work done to their house as we speak, get their opinion on what your thoughts are. Ask everyone you know! It’s a great conversation starter with friends, family and coworkers and you will get a lot of opinions which will help make the decision on who and what to hire for! Now if you start the process of finding contractors the most important part is get as many quotes as possible! Can’t stress that enough as you will talk to the contractors and get a good feel for the professionalism they provide. (value)
#4 Ask the Community
Now I doubt you have heard that your local community has programs and even the local municipal utility company provides resources (money) to you for projects that help improve the image (your property). Sacramento county, placer county and even the federal government have programs that will give you money or grants to help you out. Here is the link to the federal government assistance. Here is the Sacramento one. Placer county Here. Another great resource helping out our community is the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento. They have some loan programs that will assist you in many projects around your house. More info here
Conclusion
Fixing your property or even getting help doesn’t have to be overwhelming and stressful. By getting a list and researching every possible way (which is only 3 as listed) you will be in great shape to make an informed and powerful decision!
